Todd: Tini, you are a student, correct?
Tini: Yeah, I am a student.
Todd: OK, do you like to study? Do you like the student life?
Tini: Of course, you know. Actually, I, myself, I like studying although I'm not that much of a bookworm, but, yes, I like studying. I like spending time with my friends, and I just like enjoying my student life.
Todd: Now, soon, you are going to graduate, correct?
Tini: Yes,, fortunately or unfortunately, yes.
Todd: Well, why would you say fortunately?
Tini: Fortunately, in the sense that, you know, it's about time to get out to the real world and, you know, earn some money, and earn some experience but unfortunately in the sense that all of these precious memories, like you are putting them all behind.
Todd: Yeah, soon they are going to be over.
Tini: Right, right, and then you have more responsibility as soon as you step into the real world, you know. No more spring vacation. No more summer vacation.
Todd: Actually, that's why I'm a teacher. People always ask me, why are you a teacher? And I say, because the time off. You get so much time off, and you don't have to work a 9-5 schedule.
Tini: Yes, that is a very smart choice, I think.
Todd: Yeah, but you make no money.
Tini: I don't think so.
Todd: You think teachers make good money?
Tini: Well, not actually, but you know you can be fresher and then forever young.
Todd: Well, I don't know about forever young but it does... you do feel invigorated when you're teacher. I do agree. Well, you know, if you don't want to give up the student life, you can just become a teacher. Would you like to become a teacher?
Tini: Well, actually, I have given it a couple of thoughts but right now, I'm really into the banking industry.
Todd: Banking?
Tini: Yeah, the financing industry, and then so probably I might like give it a go.
Todd: That's going to be very stressful.
Tini: It is, but you know, I pretty much like the fast-paced lifestyle, and I'm interested in the content of the work.
Todd: Well, good-luck with banking.
Tini: Thank you. It's going to be really harsh, I know.

Ocean take me to your shore.
I haven't been there in so long, so long
Wind- blow sand on my skin,
Oh what i'd do to feel you again...again

And there's a girl i want to share you with.
She so far away
You are her gift
Ocean, bring her, down

Ocean take me to your shore.
I haven't been there in so long, so long
Wind- blow sand on my skin,
Oh what i'd do to feel you again...again
And there's a girl i want to share you with.

She so far away
You are her gift
Ocean, bring her, down

Baby, you know i'm dying and crying for you
To come on down to my ocean town
Come on down and...

Many English students complain that they understand English, but don't feel confident enough to join a conversation. There are a number of reasons for this including:

-Students are trying to translate from their native language into English.
-Production "blocking" is occurring due to nervousness, lack of confidence, etc.
-The speaker is looking for a specific word, rather than using simple language to describe what is meant. There aren't enough conversation opportunities in or outside of class.
-Students aren't able to speak to peers (for example: mixed classes of adults and teenagers).
-Exam preparation focuses on grammar, vocabulary, etc. and leaves little time for active use.

Meaning...

Fall in love - When we fall in love with someone, we start to have very strong romantic feelings for that person. We use "in love" to mean that we are having very strong romantic feelings. And then if we combine it with the word "fall", it means that it's the beginning of this kind of relationship, or it's the beginning of these kinds of feelings.

Example sentences:
1. I think I'm falling in love.

2. Do you think he is falling in love with her?

3. They fell in love a long time ago.

Example dialogue: Two friends are talking about another friend's relationship.
A: I think Dave is falling in love with Susan.

B: Why do you say that?

A: Because he has been buying her flowers almost every day.

B: Yeah, that could be a sign he's falling in love.

*******************************************

All out of love : If we fall out of love we are no longer in love with another person. We use this to describe when we lose romantic feelings for another person. We often fall out of love before we get a divorce or before we break up a relationship.

Example sentences:
1. I've fallen out of love with him.

2. She fell out of love.

3. They just fell out of love with each other.

Example dialogue: Two friends are discussing divorce.
A: Why did you and your ex-wife get divorced?

B: Well, I guess it was because we fell out of love with each other.

A: Why did you fall out of love?

B: I don't know. It is difficult to explain why people fall out of love.

Health News

THE BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS Children are encouraged to eat cereals for breakfast, but a recent study by the UK Consumers Association shows that many of these breakfast cereals can contain high levels of salt, sugar and fat. Incredibly, some cereals contain up to 50 per cent sugar. Producers add these ingredients to satisfy children's taste for strong, sweet flavours. However, salt causes high blood pressure(1), while high levels of sugar cause tooth decay(2) and, possibly, diabetes.

FAST FOOD, SLOW BRAIN Research has also shown that bad eating habits can also cause children to suffer from depression and learning disorders(3) such as dyslexia. Processed foods(4), and the use of vegetable oils in cooking, have reduced our intake(5) of certain natural substances, such as omega 3. This polyunsaturated fatty acid helps electrical signals to travel through the brain, from neuron to neuron, and increases blood flow(6) generally. Studies in the UK demonstrate school children with bad concentration and poor results can improve greatly with omega 3 supplements such as cod liver oil(7).

DON'T MOVE! Even if they eat well, children can suffer from nightmares(8), but then so can adults. Have you, for example, ever woken up in the middle of the night and found your body completely paralysed? You cannot speak. You cannot move your arms or legs. Nothing. Strangely, this is a common experience and it is called ASP, or "Awareness(9) during Sleep Paralysis." Some say that many ASP sufferers have also felt that they were being attacked by "old hags," or witches(10), demons and, in some cases, even aliens...

Easy news

Hundreds to join Heathrow protest

Hundreds more people are expected to join a protest against climate change near Heathrow Airport in London. They're angry about the airport's plans to build another runway, because they say planes cause greenhouse gases which lead to climate change. The protestors have set up a camp near the airport, and it's thought around 2,000 people will take part. There are also lots of police at the camp, to make sure the protestors don't do anything to stop planes flying.

Heathrow Airport has two runways at the moment and four terminals.
A fifth terminal will open in 2008, and a third runway could be built around the year 2020.

Companies that work in the industry say they aren't the only people to blame for climate change, and add that planes are only around 2% of the problem. Chief Superintendent Ian Thomas said the protesters were on the site illegally. The field is a sports ground belonging to Imperial College London.

As well as tents, protesters have put up lots of banners, with slogans on them like 'Climate Camp - no Airport Expansion' and 'Runways to ruin'. The company that runs the airport, BAA, has warned the group that it won't allow passengers to be "harassed or obstructed". But campers say they don't want to disrupt passengers, just BAA.

Chapter 2 --Meeting the English family
(Encontrando a família inglesa)

We are now in a street in West London. The sky is very dark and it is raining.
This is Rosa's big day. Her first day in England. Rosa is getting out of a London taxi. The taxi driver is carrying a very heavy suitcase. They walk through the rain to the front door of a big Victorian house. A small girl opens the door. She is four years old. Her brother is standing behind her. He is only two years old. One minute later, a young woman comes to the door..

"Welcome to Wembley!", she says and she offers Rosa her hand. "These are my two children, Elisabeth and Isaac."
"Pleased to meet you, Mrs Frost!" says Rosa with a strong Spanish accent"

The two children run back into the living-room.

"Don't worry about them! They're a little shy. And please call me Diana! Now let me show you your room and then we can have a nice cup of tea. Or would you prefer coffee?"
"I'd like to try a cup of English tea, made in England."
"This is your bedroom. There's a nice view of the football stadium and here's a little desk where you can study. The bathroom and toilet are just opposite your door. Now I'll just go and put the kettle on."
"Excuse me. What's a kettle?"
"In England, we use a kettle to make hot water. We can then put the hot water
in a teapot or use it to make instant coffee."

Rosa is happy with her new home, but she is thinking about her mother's opinions. Perhaps Maruja is right. The British are not normal people. They do not kiss when they meet and they live in large Victorian palaces. Their favourite drink is tea and they use strange metal kettles to make the water hot. What is she going to say to Elisabeth and Isaac? How can she make friends with two shy English children? Perhaps the answer is in the big, black psychology book.
